What are the data and statistics related to migration flows, patterns and trends (international and regional) that are useful to me as a prospective migrant?

International Context
Migration remains to be a growing and evolving global phenomenon. In some countries, there is decrease in the number of labour migrants, while in other countries, there is still a large number of people on the move.

Some basic statistics are shown in the picture below. Other interesting data are:

  • Increasing movement or migration between and among the nationals of developing countries (south-south corridors)
  • Gender responsive labour migration or the increasing number of female migrant workers
  • Decreasing number of migrant workers from South and Southeast Asia since 2017
  • Ongoing nationalization in traditional migrant workers-receiving countries such as the Saudization, which refers to the preference of countries to priorities their nationals before hiring migrant workers. It is one of the factors that reduced the number of migrant workers from Asia.

Bangladesh Context

Every year a large number of populations migrated from Bangladesh. Bangladesh is considered as country of destination. female migrants also migrated from Bangladesh in middle east country like Saudi-Arab, Dubai, Lebanon, Jordan as a Domestic worker or care giver.
