What are the dos and don’ts in applying for work overseas?

Do not just deal with anybody who comes to you with offers of employment especially those who are very eager, who promises everything, who collects money immediately, etc.
Always check with the government authority or the MRC. Make it a habit to double or triple check their current status.
Always get a working visa (not tourist or medical or study or other visas) and a work contract.
Do not falsify any document that will support you; this will result to a criminal and civil liability; you may also be banned from applying for work abroad in the future
